WEMS files Trade Mark and Limited Patent applications

WEMS has submitted UK and International Patent Applications (UK patent application no. 1003524.4, and International patent application no. PCT/EP2011/053238) for three inventions associated with its building management controller and systems, and filed three UK trade mark applications.

The trade mark applications are for WEMS; WEMS & Device and WEMS & Device WIRELESS ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL (Nos 2603867, 2603742 and 2603868 respectively).

The Patent Applications relate to the following inventions:

1. A building management controller and a corresponding method of operating the same.  The controller comprises a wireless communication module operable to commercial over a number of different frequency channels and a processor operable to detect interference on each channel and therefore select a preferred channel for communication.  Essentially, the controller is operable to automatically test separate communication channels for interference and select an optimum channel based on the results.

2. A building management system and a method of operating the same.  The system comprises at least one device and a controller.  The controller is operable to determine communication reliability for communications between the controller and the device thereby determine a direct or indirect communication route between the controller and the device.  Essentially the controller is operable to determine and select an optimum route for communications to be relayed to a particular device.

3. A building management system operable to simplify the process of adding and configuring new devices to the system.  this is achieved by the provision of an installation module which stores predetermined rules for connecting new devices and is operable to provide a user with a series of selectable options in accordance with the rules.  Essentially, this provides for simple addition of new devices to a building management system via a “wizard” type interface.
