WEMS powers up as sales soar

WIRELESS energy management specialist WEMSinternational saw sales more than double to £11.9m in a milestone year for the company.

WEMS, based in Stockport, also moved into operating profit during 2011 making £700,000, compared with a £100,000 loss in 2010.

During the year it strengthened its senior management team with former Styles and Wood boss Ivan McKeever joining as CEO and Rickett Mitchell dealmaker Matthew Bryden-Smith joining as finance director.

WEMS, which claims to be the the world’s only manufacturer and installer of wireless energy management systems, said staff numbers during 2011 grew from 47 to 79 , and could double again over the next two years.

Ivan McKeever said: "At the start of 2011, we implemented a fast-paced development strategy to help drive this dynamic and revolutionary company into new territories – both at home and abroad.

"I’m extremely confident that as we develop new partnerships and continue to achieve significant energy savings for clients, we’ll expand our growing footprint in the global energy management market."

Launched in 1990, WEMSinternational's clients include British Telecom, homewares retailer Dunelm Mills, Rank, Boots and Fitness First.

The company's technology manages the energy usage of multi-site operations, including lighting, air conditioning and heating. The system can deliver typical energy savings of 15-30% while cutting CO² emissions.
